Eyeglasses Recycling

The Gloucester Lions Club collects about 500 used eyeglasses a month. Used glasses are sent to a Lions Eyeglass Recycling Center in Calgary where trained volunteers clean and determine the prescription strengths of the glasses. The glasses are then packaged and stored until they are required for eyeglass dispensing missions. Eye care professionals and trained Lion volunteers perform vision screening and dispense the appropriate glasses free of charge to children and adults at mission sites around the world.

If you have some glasses to donate, or can set up a collection point, please contact us.

Community Support

St. Francis Xavier High School’s support helps the Gloucester Lions continue their mission of helping others through eyeglass recycling.

As a part of their Civics course, students had the opportunity to create an initiative that would positively contribute to a current issue in their community. Shannon Dewar came up with the idea of collecting eyeglasses to send to individuals who cannot afford or don’t have the resources to acquire their own. With the help of her peers, their initiative entitled ‘Visionize’ collected close to 300 glasses over the course of the semester.
