Gloucester Lions Join Ottawa Basketeers 2016 Fall Drop Off
Twice yearly baskets are collected by the Ottawa Area Basketeers and are provided to Mothers and children who have to start a new life. The baskets help with the setting up a new safe residence.
Lions Iva Cook and Doug Forbes purchased the basket items, made up the baskets and delivered them on behalf of the Gloucester Lions.

The Gloucester Lions Club welcomed the RCMP Musical Ride to Rideau Carleton Entertainment Centre for an evening of entertainment in support of the Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides. Also on hand were Ottawa Fire Fighters for a High Angle Rescue demonstration.
Fred G. and Doris Barrett Scholarship Recipients 2014
The 2014 Fred G. and Doris Barrett Scholarship from Gloucester High School is awarded to Katie Pickard
Katie is an honor roll student and gifted athlete participating in Gloucester High School’s rugby, Nordic skiing, triathlon and ultimate Frisbee programs. She also participated in local hockey, soccer and football outside of school. Katie engages the community in her love of sport through coaching and refereeing minor hockey Timbits and Atom A Rangers. Katie plans to attend University of Ottawa in the French Immersion Psychology Program.
The 2014 Fred G. and Doris Barrett Scholarship from St. Francis Xavier High School is awarded to Jason Horsfall
Jason excelled academically at St. Francis Xavier being named each year to the honor roll.
He has demonstrated leadership and commitment through participation in numerous clubs at school including senior band, eco club, Peer Mentor Program and HIPE (Health, Initiative, Planning and Education) Program which promoted awareness of mental health issues as well as performing 77 hours of community service. The only student ever to receive the Royal Canadian Legion Certificate for his volunteer work with this organization including participation in numerous events including spaghetti dinners, art sale, breakfasts and Haiti fund raiser with the Manotick legion. Jason begin studies in Biomedical Science this fall at Ottawa University.

Gloucester Lions in partnership with Lions Clubs from Greely, Manotick, Kemptville and Merrickville will be manning Nourishment Stops for the 100 cyclists participating in the 5th Annual Ottawa Cycle for Site event supporting the Foundation Fighting Blindness.
The long route is 100Km from Manotick to Kemptville to Merrickville to Pierces’s Corners and back to Manotick
The short route is 50Km and riders will be bused to Merrickville, and they will proceed to Pierces’s Corners ending in Manotick.

The Gloucester Lions will be on hand June 6th at City Hall supporting Food Aid Day 2014. This event in its tenth year raises money to purchase beef from area farmer for distribution to families in need. Come out and support rural businesses, local agriculture and the Ottawa Food Bank.

Fall Fashion Show raises $2000 for Ottawa Hospital Women’s Breast Health Centre
Gloucester Lions Club President Fred Barrett presented a cheque for $2000.00 to Jennifer Smylie, Clinical Manager, Women’s Breast Health Centre and Cancer Assessment Clinic on Tuesday April 15 at Falcon Ridge Golf Club.
The donation in support of the Ottawa Hospital Women’s Breast Health Centre (WBHC) represents the proceed from the club’s “Fall Fashion Show” held in October at the Gloucester Lions Hall featuring originals designs from the collection of Ashton, Ontario fashion designer Judy Joannou.
Jennifer gave club members and guests an excellent presentation on the important work of the WBHC, which provides breast imaging, biopsy, diagnosis, risk assessment, surgical planning and psychosocial support for patients, and their families. Also highlighted was the plan to expand and consolidate services at a new state-of-the-art Breast Health Centre to be built at the General Campus of The Ottawa Hospital.
